Kelly Byrne's Miles for Miracles Fundraiser
This November, I will be joining the Miles for Miracles team and running the New York City Marathon! Throughout the experience, I will be raising money for the Boston Children's Hospital. This is my way of honoring the incredible work that the hospital does for their patients everyday and helping them continue their mission of improving children's lives.
As you may know, my friends Bridie and John Kevin Conneely have a beautiful daughter named Mae, who was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). Throughout her short life, she has beat the odds - earning her the nickname of "Miracle Mae" - all with the help of the doctors, nurses, and staff at Children's. From day one, Bridie and John Kevin chose the uphill battle to fight for their daughter's life. The road will never be easy for them, and I admire their hopefulness and ability to roll with life's punches.
Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome is a congential heart condition where the left side of the heart does not develop correctly. It's a rare condition that Mae will deal with for the rest of her life. Mae is just one of many of the stories Children's sees every day, and I know this organization is a great one, based on the experience Bridie and John Kevin had there.
If Mae can endure multiple open heart surgeries before her second birthday, I know I can run a marathon. Mae will be my "patient partner," serving as inspiration to help me get through the challenge at hand. I hope you are able to support my cause and the Boston Children's Hospital. Any amount is GREATLY appreciated!
