I've signed on to be a Hope Rider for the Hub on Wheels citywide bike ride because I believe so strongly in all the amazing things Boston Children's Hospital does for kids. On September 16th, I’ll join thousands of cyclists for this family friendly ride through the Boston neighborhoods – including on a car-free Storrow Drive – all to raise critical funds for pediatric cancer research at Boston Children’s.
Why I'm riding: after having a baby in 2017 I joined a support group for new moms run by Beverly Hospital and on my first day of the group, the very first people I met were Steph and her son William. William was just a couple of weeks older than my son and I could instantly tell that he was Steph's whole world. Along with the other moms in our group, we spent the summer asking endless new-mom questions, going for walks together and sharing in each others struggles and successes with parenthood. Then on January 18th Steph shared with us a devastating update about William: he had been diagnosed with hepatoblastoma, a rare cancer in the liver that had already spread to his lungs. Since that time, William has courageously battled the disease at Boston Children's Hospital (and Dana Farber Cancer Institutute) and I am thrilled to say that as of last week he is officially in remission!
Why you should donate: There are thousands more heroes like William out there that need our help. Your donation will go directly to pediatric cancer research at Boston Children's Hospital, the leading institution for this research. My hope is that one day, no parent will ever have to go through the heartache and uncertainty that Steph and her husband went through when they learned about William's cancer.
A donation of any amount has a profound impact. Thank you for your support.
