As many of you know, I have a long history of running and, in particular, running for charity. From my days on the track and field team at St. Lawrence University to ultra trail running in the Colorado Rockies, I have always felt a need to do so for a cause. Due to injuries and subsequent ankle surgeries, I was forced to take a 5-year sabbatical from the road and trails, which admittedly has been a struggle. But, thanks to a wizard/surgeon in NYC, I am back at it and ready to toe the line again.
I am honored, humbled and overall ecstatic to have the chance to be part of the Boston Children's Hospital's Miles for Miracles Boston Marathon team. Having worked in and around the Boston running community, I know first hand how amazing this team and program are. You can spot them a mile away around marathon time, and for reasons other than the iconic race jerseys. This group is a blast to be around, always has the most energy around town and especially on long runs. Anyone who has ever trained for a marathon knows what those last long runs can be like. Well, take a trip out to the marathon course on the last long run and you'll find an especially spirited group of runners. I have only been a spectator to their energy in the past.
In the next several months, you will be hearing a lot from me regarding my training, fundraising and all-around antics that always accompanies me from day to day. It's been a while since I did anything like this, so stay tuned, it should get interesting—and hilarious.
So, why Boston Children's Hospital? I’m running as part of the Miles for Miracles team because I believe so strongly in the all of the amazing work Boston Children’s Hospital does for kids:
- Children from all over the world find hope and healing through 258 clinical programs—more expertise than any other pediatric hospital in the world.
- Patient families find support, from big needs like temporary housing steps from the hospital to small kindnesses that relieve stress.
- More than 1,400 researchers find solutions others can’t through lifesaving discoveries that are shared with the world.
Simply put: Boston Children’s works to give every child a healthy future. You can help turn my miles into miracles for kids. Please give today.
See you out on the road,
