I've joined the Miles for Miracles team because I believe so strongly in all the amazing things Boston Children's Hospital has done not only for my Hunter, but also for the countless other lives the hospital has saved and continues to do on a daily basis.
My first interaction with BCH was when my son, Hunter, was diagnosed with a rare disease, Pulmonary Vein Stenosis. He was diagnosed at the age of 1, and his Colorado physicians felt the best plan was to let him die. After I heard those words, I got on the Internet so fast and immediately saw BCH was conducting a study in PVS. Within a month, we were in Boston (we lived in Colorado) and began a plan to save his life.
Hunter was blessed to receive the gift of life at 21 months of age. With his new lungs, he is PVS free. Due to chronic rejection, Hunter received his second gift of life, a second set of beautiful new lungs when he was 7.
In April of 2016, Hunter was diagnoised with PTLD, Posttransplant lymphoproliferative disease, aka cancer. Once again, his team knew what to do and he was in treatment all Summer. His last scans in August showed the lymphoma cells were getting smaller. This will always be something his team will be watching but once again Children's is improving Hunter's life.
TODAY, Hunter is back at school full time, 2nd grade! He loves school. Summer of 2016 he was able to swim again after two years and we were in the pool several times a day!
During nearly the last 8 years, Boston Children's hospital has been such a support to not only our Hunter, but also to our entire family. His team and several people in the hospital are not just our friends, but they have become our family.
Boston Children's Hospital did one major thing when we were at our lowest, they gave us HOPE, which has carried us through many ups and downs on Hunter's Journey. First and foremost through this journey we thank GOD, and both of Hunter's donors, and the donor familes. We pray for them on a daily basis.
I was lucky enough to run Boston 2016, an expericence that has changed me. Being able to be a part of such a special organizaion is such a gift. Please help me reach my goal so I can help families who are just like mine, struggling to make each day the best it can be in extraordinary circumstances. Please support my run, and the the NUMBER 1 Pediatric Hospital in the WORLD!
