This November, Emily will be pain free for 1-year! It is such a big milestone for us! In May 2015, Emily had an appendectomy which resulted in six months of post-operative complicaitons. For the next 6 months, Emily was in and out of the emergency room, missing too much school, and living in constant pain. Emily was seen and treated by multiple specialty groups at once, because no one could figure out what was happening to her. Finally, Emily entered the Pain Clinic (at Boston Children's Hosptial) at the recommendation of Dr. Windsor. Very quickly, the amazing staff and doctors working there diagnosed Emily. She had something called ACNES nerve entrapment, which is when the nerves get trapped in the muscle and reach the surface of the skin -- causing extreme pain, stomach muscle spasms, and phycial and emotional deterioration. She had two surgeries, in the last one, they snipped the tips of the nerves, which allowed them to go back to where they should be. The relief from pain was instantaneous! Two days later, we celebrated Thanksgiving, with so much to be thankful for!
Emily has made it her mission to give back to the amazing organization! Emily's long-term goals are to be a pediatric anesthesiologist and work at the pain clinic at Children's, they made such an impact on her and her quality of life.
Emily's goal is to raise $1500 for the 2017 Miles for Miracles Boston Marathon Team. Any help getting her to this goal is appreciated! Emily has fundraised for 3 years and her total raised to date is $6,542!
