As a former Boston Children’s Hospital patient, I am honored and excited to run the 2018 Boston Marathon on behalf of my patient partner Ava, her family, and the Credit Unions Kids at Heart Team.
Ava was diagnosed with hypoplasia of the splenium of the corpus callosum, cortical heterotopia, mild polymicrogyria, and a chromosomal abnormality when she was 3 years old and has been treated at Children’s Hospital for 7 years. When she arrived, she was non-verbal, had developmental delays and low muscle tone. Because of the care she received from the wonderful doctors and nurses at Children’s Hospital, the enduring love and patience of her family, and her own incredible strength and determination, Ava has made miraculous progress. She is very inquisitive, loves being active, and has a huge heart.
Breakthroughs made at Boston Children’s Hospital in pediatric neurology and pediatric brain cancer are shared with other hospitals across the US. Many lives like Ava’s benefit from this research every day. But research costs dollars and without donations, that research would cease. All donations are greatly appreciated, tax deductible, and 100% of the money raised goes directly toward research.
On behalf of Ava and all the kids receiving care at Boston Children’s Hospital, thank you from the bottom of my heart!
