Hi! My name is Daniel and I have a special heart. Two of my life saving open heart surgeries were done at Boston Children’s Hospital. When they were preparing me for my last heart catheter procedure (which turned into emergency open heart surgery), I admit I was scared. The nurses noticed and asked me what some of my favorite things were. Within minutes I had been gifted with Star Wars legos, a Patriots shirt and signed photographs from the Pats. I was still scared, but I was also really happy and excited.
In February I had spinal surgery to correct the curve in my spine. I was in surgery for over ten hours and after my surgery I met one of my new favorite pals, Mr. Mike. He's the best nurse and made me laugh and helped me to be so brave when I was in recovery. I was told I can't be on my feet--at all--for at least a month. I also can't sit at a 90 degree angle, so it's been a crazy few weeks. I have a wheelchair until I'm allowed to walk again and I've named him Speedy Locomotive. I get to sleep in the living room in a nifty hospital bed and my brothers get super mad that I get to watch TV after they go to bed. The truth is, I would much rather be going to bed so that I could go to school. I surprised even myself with how much I really like school and miss it. I really miss my teachers and friends, but they are so nice they Facetime me and send me lots of cards and pictures. The day after the Boston Marathon I'm going back so they can put me in a cast that will let me start walking again. I'm scared because I have to be put to sleep and that always makes me uneasy, but I know they will take good care of me.
My mom is running the Boston Marathon and I’m her patient partner. I am seriously SO excited to cheer for her and I can't wait for her to see me in the crowd and come hug me. I told my mom someday I want run the Boston Marathon for Miles for Miracles. I really want to help raise money for Boston Children’s Hospital. I like that I can help bring a smile to another kid who is scared. No amount is too small and every donation is really appreciated!! Thank you!
