WHY WE’RE HOSTING THE SUMMER WIFFLE BALL CLASSIC:
Last year thanks to our amazing teams, sponsors and volunteers we held the first Summer Wiffle Ball Classic tournament to benefit Boston Childrens Hospital's Vascular Anomalies Center. An incredibly fun day of competition that raised over $32,000 for Boston Children's Hospital. We are thriled to be back and organizing the tournament for year 2 on August 26, 2018 in Hingham, Massachussets and we have an even bigger fundraising goal for this year.
The idea for this tournament came from 16 year old, Alex Malloy, a Hingham resident and patient at Boston Children's being treated for Gorham Stout, a rare bone disease of the lymphatic system. Alex is teaming up with Dan Ventresca, who was raised in Hingham and also treated at Boston Children's for Gorham Stout disease. Alex and Dan have a Gorham Stout connection but they also share a love of sports . So, a wiffle ball tournament is the perfect fit for a fun community event that raises awareness and funds for an important cause.
Alex and Dan have both received lifesaving medical treatment at Boston Children's for this rare disease. As such, all proceeds from the Summer Wiffle Ball Classic will again benefit the Lymphatic Anomalies Registry at Boston Children's. This registry is critical for Alex, Dan and others with Gorham Stout disease as there is not a lot of information about long-term effects and outcomes or about what the most effective treatments are. As the few patients with this disease are spread around the globe, it is very important to gather patient data in a centralized registry, with the goal of expediting clinical understanding and improving care.
"Until every child is well." This is the promise that drives every doctor, nurse, researcher and staff member at Children's. So join us again this year for a fun competition while raising $ for an amazing cause.
Let's "hit a grand slam" for Boston Children's"!
See you on the field!
