The Basics

What is Hub On Wheels?
Hub On Wheels is an annual bike ride hosted by Mayor Martin J. Walsh and the City of Boston. Riders choose from two course—a 10- or a 40-mile route—through scenic Boston neighborhoods and a car-free Storrow Drive. The ride begins and ends at City Hall Plaza in downtown Boston. All funds raised benefit kids cancer research Boston Children’s Hospital.

Who benefits from the funds raised by Hub On Wheels?
100% of donations will support kids cancer research at Boston Children’s .Plus, a portion of registration fees processed through the TD Hub On Wheels website and the Boston Children’s website will be donated.

What is a Hope Rider?
A Hope Rider not only participates in Hub On Wheels but also fundraises for Boston Children’s Hospital as part of their efforts, fueling research and hope for children with cancer.

Why should I become a Hope Rider?
You help so many families who rely on us to save their child. 100% of your donation supports pediatric cancer care and research. Other benefits include: starting at the front of the pack on ride day, gifts along the way, and much more. Learn more about becoming a Hope Rider

How do I register, and is there a fee?
The registration fee is $50. As a Hope Rider, 100% of your registration fee will support Boston Children’s. All Hope Riders should register through the Boston Children’s website.

Should I also register on the Hub On Wheels website?
No. Everyone who registers as a Hope Rider will automatically be registered for the Hub On Wheels bike ride. This year, we're working directly with Hub On Wheels to make registration eaiser for our hope riders.

What if I already registered on the Hub On Wheels site, and would now like to register to fundraise?
That’s great! Please email for instructions.

I’m new to biking; can I ride in Hub On Wheels?
Yes! Hub On Wheels has two route options to accommodate everyone: a 10- and 40-mile route. We recommend the 10-mile route for beginners and families.

Can kids ride in Hub On Wheels?
Riders must be 12 years or older to ride the 10-mile route. Children under 12 may participate only if riding with an adult on a tandem, trail-a-bike, bike seat or trailer.

What are the responsibilities of a team captain?
Team captains control the Team Fundraising Page, recruit teammates, and spearhead team spirit and fundraising activities.

Is there a limit to the number of riders you can have on a team?
Nope! Any number riders can come together to join the fight against kids cancer—the more the merrier.

How can I get my company involved with Hub On Wheels?
Rally your colleagues to form a corporate team; see if your company has a matching gift program; host an office fundraising event; and/or become a Boston Children’s sponsor! If you have questions about corporate involvement, contact

Are there fundraising requirements?
Hope Riders are encouraged to raise at least $200. Riders who raise $200 start at the front of the pack on ride day. Need fundraising ideas?

How much of my donation will support pediatric cancer research?
100% of fundraising through Hub On Wheels and our Hope Riders supports kids cancer research at Boston Children’s Hospital.

How can family/friends/colleagues support my ride?
Your supporters can:

  • Give online: Donate via credit card on your personal fundraising page. Send them the link, or they can visit and search for you. (Click on ‘Support a Participant’).
  • Write a check: Make payable to Boston Children's Hospital. Put your name on the memo line and mail it in a donation envelope.
  • Give you cash: You write a personal check or a bank check and mail it to us. Note: Make sure to write your donor’s information on the envelope so we can add them to your fundraising page.

Will donors who give by check or cash appear on my personal fundraising page?
Yes. Our team will add all donations we receive by mail to the Fundraising Honor Roll list on your page and your total will be updated. Offline donations may take 7-10 business days to be reflected on your page.

Who should checks be made out to?
Boston Children’s Hospital.

How should I send my check donations to Boston Children’s?
Hope Riders receive a packet with several donation envelopes. Please write your name in the "Memo" section of each check, and mail as soon as you can, so we can update your total. Need more donation envelopes? Contact

How can I use social media in my fundraising campaign?
Share your personal fundraising page and any updates with friends and family through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and more. Log in to your Fundraising Center to access our social media toolkit.

Do you send acknowledgement letters for contributions?
Yes. Boston Children's Hospital acknowledges all gifts of $250 or more and sends receipts for these gifts per IRS guidelines. All online gifts will receive an automatic receipt.

What is a Miracle Rider?
Miracle Rider are fundraisers who go above and beyond in their efforts for the hospital by raising $2,500 or more.

How will we receive our incentive gifts?
All incentive items will be mailed to riders on September 1. If you reach a milestone after this date, you’ll be able to pick up your item(s) at the Boston Children’s welcome tent on ride day.

Event Day

Where will the Boston Children’s welcome tent be located?
All Hope Riders will be provided with a map showing where to go on ride day.

What if it rains on ride day?
The event will take place rain or shine!
