10 years ago, my family tragically lost my brother Jeff, and all of us understood that life as we knew it would never be the same.
Together we made the easy decision to donate Jeff’s organs, allowing him to continue being “good at life”, saving 6 people in need of life-saving transplants. A six month old baby, named Caitlin Downey, who’s liver was failing, was one of them.
Little did we know, through this process, two families would become one. We could not have asked for a better family to reach out to us, and eventually call our own, than the Downey’s.
Boston Children’s Hospital Pediatrict Transplant Team performed Caitlin’s liver transplant, so that Jeff could live on and share his “good at life” spirit with “little” Caitlin, who happens to be my “Mini Me.” On Sunday, we will walk on the Pediatric Transplant’s team, alongside the Downey family.
Please consider donating to Boston Children’s Hospital in honor of my brother Jeff who was and still is “good at life.”
P.S If you’re not already, consider registering as an organ donor, and if the time ever came, be the light in someone’s darkness.
