A message from Luke's mom Danielle
Last week was one of the scariest, most exhausting, most emotional weeks that I've ever had. Last week we learned that Luke has been having seizures. In the beginning of March he was having episodes that we thought looked neurological. After his third episode, we brought him to the emergency room at a local hospital. That hospital ignored our concerns, ignored our descriptions, and ignored the videos of the episodes that we showed them. They diagnosed him with a cold and told us to give him Tylenol for fever and to use an aspirator for his congestion just after telling us his nose and lungs were clear and that he had no fever. We did not give up, we followed our instincts and we got him into one of the best hospitals in this country, Boston Children's Hospital. After a 48 hour EEG it was determined that he does have seizures in the form of spasms that come in clusters only after he wakes up. We remained in the hospital a full week for testing. So many prayers by those who have known about this have been answered thus far. Now we need to pray that his medicine works and rids him if these seizures and that these, as well as other forms, never return. Despite our worry for our baby boy, we still feel incredibly blessed after seeing all the other poor babies in the hospital. We are so blessed because these do not appear to be impacting him developmentally (doctors were very impressed) and it is not caused by a tumor. We feel blessed because our insurance backed us when we needed it most. We feel blessed because of all of the love shown to us. We feel blessed because, most of all, our little guy is beautiful, incredibly smart, and flourishing in every other way and is so loved by all. He is in such good spirits and his incredible personality and silliness continues to become even more amazing every day. We know that God has His hand in this and will be there for us all on this journey. He never gives more than we can handle. I may get down, cry, worry, but i known I have the best family, most incredible husband, and a loving God there for me when i need it.
Please continue to keep us, but especially Luke, in your prayers as we move forward. Prayers are, after all, the best medicine.
