Our son Joshua was born in 2005 with a birth defect in his esophagus and trachea. We had no idea of his birth defect until he was diagnosed within a few hours of his birth as having tracheoesophageal fistula and esophageal atresia (TEF/EA). Joshua’s esophagus did not form a continuous tube from his mouth to his stomach, and was connected to his trachea in two places. This meant that he was unable to breathe properly and there was no way to get food to his stomach. We were incredibly fortunate that Joshua underwent corrective surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital before he was even one day old. After his surgery, Joshua spent four weeks at Children’s Hospital before coming home. Today he is a happy and healthy 11-year old, and we have no doubt that much of his health is due to the care he received at Boston Children’s Hospital. Joshua still visits the surgery and gastroenterology departments for checkups, and we all continue to be amazed and grateful that he is doing so well.
Our younger son Adam also receives services through Boston Children’s Hospital Department of Psychiatry, and we know many families in our community who also are incredibly lucky to benefit from both outpatient and inpatient services at Children’s Hospital.
Please support our walk for Boston Children’s Hospital. We are walking in the Eversource Walk for Boston Children’s Hospital because we want other children to have the best care possible, just like our children have. If anyplace can make that happen, it’s Boston Children’s Hospital. Children’s has been nationally ranked as one of the best pediatric hospitals for almost two decades. They care for more than 500,000 patients every year – many with health problems no other hospital in the world can handle. Every day, the doctors and nurses at Children’s combine courage, creativity and compassion to provide life-changing care. Any donation you can make will help the incredibly talented and compassionate doctors, nurses, and staff to keep performing miracles for children and families. Please click on one of our team member’s names to the right to go to their page and make a donation. Thank you!
