It's all about teamwork! And our team is united in support of Eversource Walk for Boston Children's Hospital because we want to help patients get the care they need.
While some may say that having several family members in the hospital in a short period of time is not lucky, we at Team Holy Walkamole disagree. You see, our family has needed Boston Children's Hospital. Through trauma, birth defects, and a prenatal diagnosis of Down Syndrome Boston Children's Hospital and the amazing care they provide has literally saved our babies lives! We know first hand just how lucky we are to have such an amazing pediatric hospital so close to home.
Here is a little bit about each of our lucky kids!!!
Allie is our happy three year old who just started pre-school!!! We found out that Allie had Down Syndrome prenatally and ever since that day Boston Children's Hospital has been there for us! Allie has seen many specialits at CHB, had multiple surgeries and hospitalizations and is followed by the Down Syndrome Program. Everyday we celebrate the spunky little girl Allie is becoming and we have Boston Children's Hospital to thank for that!!!
Duncan, now 5 months old, was born with Esophogeal Atresia (EA) and Tracheoesophageal Fistula (TEF).These birth defects usually occur together: Esophageal atresia (EA) occurs when the upper part of the esophagus does not connect with the lower esophagus and stomach. Tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) is an abnormal connection between the upper part of the esophagus and the trachea or windpipe. Duncan was transferred to the CHB NICU immediately after these birth defects were discovered. Duncan, and his parents, were met by the most caring and understanding nurses and doctors who helped ease their fears and provided Duncan with the most amazing care. Today he is a happy and healthy baby and his family could not be more grateful to have CHB as a part of their lives!!
Glenn, an energetic 11 year old who loves playing sports as much as he does watching them, was involved in an accident in August of 2016 that resulted in severe trauma to his head and face. Glenn was medflighted to CHB where an amazing team of doctors and nurses were waiting. During a very scary time, the staff at CHB went out of their way to make sure that Glenn's parents and family members were informed of his status while in surgery as well as provided water, coffee, and much needed hugs! Glenn spent over 3 months at CHB recovering from his injuries where he received outstanding care delivered with compassion and understanding. Glenn's parents, and his family, cannot thank CHB enough for all that they have done, and continue to do for Glenn!!
Needless to say Boston Children's Hospital holds a very special place in the hearts of our family. These kids, and all the children that have been and will be helped by CHB are the reason we walk. Please join us in supporting the hospital by joining our team or making a donation to one of our team members!
