Cliff's Heart

On March 17th my husband Cliff was flown by LifeStar to Boston Children's Hospital. Cliff was born with a congenital heart defect, Tetrology of Fallot. In 1975 he had repairs to his heart. Taking Cliff to Boston meant he would be cared for by the BACH team that consists of doctors trained to care for adults with congenital heart defects. When Cliff arrived in Boston, the impression was he had endocarditis, a bacterial heart infection. After days of intravenous antibiotics, countless tests and images, andy many sleepless nights, it was decided surgery was necessary. On Friday March 24th Cliff underwent open heart surgery. A 7 cm mass was removed from his left ventricle. This surgery saved my husband's life. The care he received at Boston Children's was amazing. Not only did they save his life, they took care of our family. Talking with our family through every process and procedure was so helpful. The nurses even threw Hanna a birthday party as she celebrated her sweet 16 sitting in the hospital with Cliff.

Biopsy results showed the mass removed was a pleomorphic Sarcoma and Cliff is now being treated at Dana Farber. Cliff is still following up with the BACH team on occasion. My family is forever grateful to Boston Children's Hospital.

I've

joined Eversource Walk for Boston Children's Hospital because I want to help the hospital continue its amazing work for kids:

Researchers regularly make amazing discoveries that change children's lives.
Boston Children's welcomes kids whose families can't afford health care—more than any other hospital in Massachusetts.
Community programs makes a point of reaching out to help low-income and at-risk kids.
And the hospital doesn't just stop there. Boston Children's really understands the importance of training the next generation of top pediatricians and nurses, so they can continue to provide the best, most innovative care possible to kids.
