The Boston Children's Hospital Wellness Program
The Wellness Program was designed to help patient families cope with the stress that comes with having a child endure ongoing treatments or long stays in the hospital. The program provides a sanctuary for parents and family, giving them a place to unwind and offering healing support.
“I feel like a weight has been lifted off of us.”

Yoga Reaches Out has been instrumental in expanding the Wellness Program, which would not exist without philanthropy. The program offers massage, yoga, Reiki and meditation, and is open to parents, siblings and family members.

Past support and future needs
With funds raised through the 2017 Yoga Reaches Out event, the Wellness Program was able to expand to 6 days a week to provide stress management modalities for families and caregivers.
The Wellness program now offers:
- Reiki educational training for caregivers resulting in certification
- Reiki I & Reiki II classes and refresher class for staff
- Massage 3-4 days/week
- Zumba dance class once a week (open to all)
- Yoga classes 4 days/week by a MD and an RN (open to all)
Moving forward, the Wellness Program hopes to increase participation in yoga and Zumba classes and to continue to develop volunteer programs for registered yoga practitioners so services can be expanded into the community. Your fundraising efforts for the 2018 Yoga Reaches Out event will help to make these goals a reality, allowing more patients and families to take advantage of programs to unwind, de-stress and cope with the pressure that comes with caring for their sick child.
