Welcome to Kim and Scott Auen's Boston Marathon Fundraising Page

We are fundraising for this event because we believe so strongly in all the good things Boston Children's Hospital does for kids. Its patient care programs are unusually sensitive to what sick and injured children and their families really need.

Hearing the stories of the patient partner’s families truly provides perspective on what matters most; family.  There is no greater love than that between a parent and child and it’s unimaginable to think
what those families are going through when their child is battling an illness or has special needs. Being part of the team provides us an opportunity to give back to those in need. So, here starts our
story...

Once again we willl run The Boston Marathon, this year as a team; The Auen Team!

As many of you know, Kim was unable to finish The Marathon last year.  She was stopped at Mile 25.7 with thousands of other runners.  Scott and the entire family, including Kim's Patient Partner's family, The Melo's were all waiting at the firestation close to the 26 mile mark on Boylston Street, Kim was to meet Jameson and run together to the finish line.  It was always Kim's dream to run and finish Boston, but this wasn't going to happen in 2013.  The tragic events of last year's marathon has forever changed our lives. Having our kids, the Melo family, and our loved ones so close to the site of the explosions was terrifying.

Being stopped so close to the finish line was completely heart wrenching not only for Kim, but also for Jameson.  Kim felt as if she let Jameson down for reasons beyond her control.  But, in 2014, Kim will finish the race she started last year.

We are fortunate to be partnered with the most wonderful little boy named Jameson and his entire family.  Over the last year, we have become very close.  We have gotten together for dinners, birthday parties, and many road races.  Jameson is a 7 year old boy who has Sturge Weber Syndrome and in the past few weeks, he has been diagnosed with Celiac Disease.  Jameson had a very limited diet before his diagnosis, but now he has to be on a completely gluten free diet.  He is a very resilent boy, who plays soccer and Tae Kwon Do.  All of the appointments and visits to Children's Hospital do not seem to slow him down.  His older sister Olivia watches over her little brother with love and support. He and the whole family are quite an inspiration to us.

It is quite an honor to run this race again; Kim truly thought this would be a one time thing, but she is blessed to be able to run again this year.  I am even luckier to do it with her.  After the events last year I was determined, like many others to run Boston. I'll be returning to finish my 6th Boston Marathon and to witness Kim cross the finish line! We're honored to part of the Boston Children's Hospital - Miles for Miracles Team.

We run for our entire family, Emma and Jack, friends, and most importantly, Jameson, Olivia, Jess and Oggie.; our biggest fans  Thank you so much for all your support and we are looking forward to sharing our journery to finish Boston 2014.  Boston Strong Forever.
